Neighborhood Highlight:The city of Franklin was founded on October 26, 1799 and was named after Benjamin Franklin, a close friend of Dr. Hugh Williamson, a member of the Continental Congress and Williamson County's namesake.  Some of the Civil Wars bloodiest and costliest battles were fought in around Franklin devastating its plantation economy.  It took nearly a 120 years but Franklin has recovered into one of the wealthiest cities in the United States.  The tremendous Cool Springs Galleria, great schools, wide housing price ranges, beautiful surroundings, and great economic development, such as Nissan's Headquarters recent move to the city, make Franklin a wonderful place to live.

Old Franklin

Carnton Plantation

Possibly, the five bloodiest hours of America's Civil War took place here at the Battle of Franklin. On November 30, 1864, Carnton was occupied by Confederate troops moving toward the well-entrenched Federal army. A devastating battle ensued. Later, the mansion housed hundreds of the more than 6,000 Confederate casualties from that battle. Adjoining the property is the largest private Confederate cemetery in America.
