Cheatham County
Cheatham County's slogan, "A Great Place to Raise a Family,"
speaks of the quality of its educational system and
well-maintained neighborhoods, low crime rate, law enforcement,
ambulance service, fire protection, and affordable housing.
Situated on the scenic Highland Rim amid the green rolling hills
of Middle Tennessee, Cheatham County is surrounded by the
beautiful Cumberland and Harpeth rivers. As the 83rd county
established in Tennessee and one of its smallest, Cheatham is
comprised of just 314 square miles. Cheatham County's mission
statement places an emphasis on the development of family values
and commitment to quality growth of residential, commercial, and
industrial development in a manner that preserves Cheatham's
diversity, rural heritage, and natural beauty. Located west of
downtown Nashville, Cheatham is one of the fastest growing
counties in Middle Tennessee area.
Transportation
Located approximately 30 minutes from downtown Nashville, Cheatham
County offers a convenient and efficient highway network to major
metropolitan destinations that include I-24 East and I-40 to the
South. Interstate 840, running along the northern edge of the
county, creates a bypass around Nashville.
Climate
Cheatham County enjoys the mild, temperate climate that is common
throughout Middle Tennessee, which translates into four vibrant,
colorful seasons without the ravages of extremely hot summers or
icy cold winters. June's monthly average is approximately 90
degrees; January brings a cool temperature of approximately 46
degrees. The average rainfall is approximately 50 inches, enough
to green the rolling hills and keep the flowers blooming. Humidity
averages 58 percent year around.
Health Care
Cheatham Medical Center, located in Ashland City, is the county's
own full-service hospital. Included in its many in-house and
outpatient programs is an emergency care unit that see about
400-500 patients per month. Auxiliary units cover respiratory care
and EKG, operation facilities for major and minor surgeries,
social services, pharmaceuticals, and a special services
department that consists of volunteers who assist the medical
personnel and nurses or visit patients as needed.
Quality of Life
Some of Middle Tennessee's best kept secrets are the recreational
areas in Cheatham County. The Cheatham Wildlife area, located
southwest of the Cumberland River, is a virtually unknown
20,000-acre park. Water sports and fishing opportunities are
abundant at the 67-mile Cheatham Lake and the Cumberland River.
Other attractions in Cheatham include several Indian mounds at
Harpeth State Historical area and two widely acclaimed golf
courses, the Golf Club of Tennessee and the Sycamore Valley Golf
Course.
Communities
The four main communities that make up Cheatham County are Ashland
City, Pegram, Kingston Springs, and Pleasant View. Ashland City is
Cheatham's county seat and houses the majority of the areas
industry. Located along the Cumberland River, Ashland City also
has a premier antique district with nine dealers offering a wide
variety of goods. Less than a mile from the Davidson County line,
Pegram has been an ideal home to those who work in Nashville but
desire to live in a rural setting. Pleasant View is Cheatham
County's new community.
